WALK IN WISDOM

Walk in Wisdom Ephesians 5:15-21

So far in the second half of the book of Ephesians we’ve been learning how we are to behave as believers in Christ. How we conduct our daily walk in this life.

  • With lowliness, meekness, longsuffering, in unity we each have a role to play in building up the body.
  • We do so with cleanliness not greediness, not performing or even thinking about works of the flesh.
  • We put off the old man and put on the new man, doing everything in righteousness and holiness and with the love of Christ.
  • And we conduct ourselves in a way that is pleasing to God.

We saw the contrast between being in the darkness and in the light. Now that we understand how to conduct ourselves in a manner pleasing to God, we can put what we’ve learned into use and walk with wisdom not as fools.

Walk in Wisdom

Ephesians 5:15-17

See then, because the knowledge we have now, walk, or live, circumspectly.

In use now, the US Army has 542 field manuals with details on how tos and procedures for soldiers in the field. The US Army field manual on Mine/Countermine Operations is 517 pages long. It teaches how to deal with mines. Including how to walk in a minefield.

You know how to walk in a minefield? Circumspectly!

  • Circumspectly– means carefully; accurately; precisely; diligently.
  • Wisdom– the soundness of an action or decision with regard to the application of experience, knowledge, and good judgment.
  • Fool– One who is deficient in judgment, sense, or understanding, One who acts unwisely on a given occasion, One who has been tricked or made to appear ridiculous. (Remember back in 5:6)
  • Redeeming time means to take full advantage of every opportunity.
  • You may have heard, “idle hands are the devil’s workshop.”

As we live our lives for the Lord, we do so very carefully, showing Jesus in everything we do and say. We also do so looking for every opportunity to show Jesus, and using our time wisely.

Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

Be Wise and Understand the Lord’s Will

Ephesians 5:17-21

What is the Lord’s Will?

  • Well, we know from what Paul wrote to the Ephesians, that we are to put off living like the old man and put on living like the new man.
  • We know in everything we do and say, we are representatives of God as His children.
  • We are also to live Spirit filled lives.

He gives a short list of 4 ways to what a Spirit filled, or (joy filled), life looks like:

  1. Don’t be drunk with wine. You can’t show Jesus if you’re drunk with wine, or anything else.
  2. Go about our day singing songs and hymns. A happy heart in Christ. Dwelling on Jesus can produce joy and happiness in your heart.
  3. Being in a continuous state of praise and thanksgiving to God. We learned about all the blessings we’ve been given by God in the first part of Ephesians. All the details about our salvation in Christ. We serve a wonderful, loving God that considers us His children.
  4. We live in harmony with each other. We submit to one another. We don’t have to always have our way.

When we live our lives, with joy and happiness. Being thankful with a song in our heart, and people will take notice that something is different about us. Always showing the love of Jesus to all those we encounter thoughout our day.

Do you have a song in your heart?

Do you know the joy of being a child of God?

If you don’t, today is the day to become a child of God and accept Jesus.

If you have all these, are you showing all that you meet your joy?
